Three sets of major goals guide the operation of the Center: 1 Research on mental health status and service needs of Asian Americans; causes of stresses and the ways people handle their stresses and cope with such difficulties; 2 training of researchers who are interested in doing research on mental health and related areas among Asian Americans; and 3 dissemination of research information for service planning and for public policy matters. At the present, research foci include the assessment of prevalence rates and ralated psychiatric epidemiological studies on Asian American and comparison os such rates with other peoples in the United States and abroad. The latter is achieved through collaborative studies with mental health professionals in several Asian countries.

MAHA community mental health clinic promotes public awareness about the mental health problems in the Asian American populations and provides community support, counseling services, and therapy.
Chicago has the fifth largest Asian-American population in the United States, with an estimatedAsian-Americans living in the Chicago metro area, according to the American Community Survey. This population accounts for about 90 percent of all Asian-Americans in the state of Illinois, and consists of 63 ethnic subgroups including Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. With such diversity comes a diverse set of needs, especially pertaining to health.

The Chicago Asian American Psychology Lab aims to promote health equity through conducting community-engaged research. Our lab partners with community organizations for research, program development, program evaluation, grant writing, and consultation.
